Mike is not bound by the limits of space and time.

Balance is tricky to achieve, maybe impossible, in systems of any type. As soon as you introduce some change, it can radically upset other aspects of the framework as a whole. It's all butterfly effect and stuff, if you're into chaos theory and Jurassic Park and what not. The system outgrows itself, not containable within its own rules and limitations.

That's where meta-systems come in, I suppose. The best shot we have at producing a balanced system is to have some kind of anti-feedback built into it that can adapt to different circumstances. Much like a meta-game. These concepts can be applied to all sorts of useful things.

Maybe video games are useful for something after all.
